FDA permits marketing of e-cigarette products, marking first authorization of its kind for the agency . According to a 2018 study examining infrequent cannabis smoking in adults, vaping THC produced stronger mind-altering effects than smoking a similar amount of weed. Researchers noted that study participants using both types of cigarettes had a higher nicotine dependence in relation to e-cigarettes. However, บุหรี่ไฟฟ้า pod found that only daily e-cigarette use had a statistically significant effect on smoking cessation rates.

In addition to your lungs, nicotine and other substances in e-liquid can hurt your heart and brain. We know nicotine can hurt brain development, raise your blood pressure and narrow your arteries. We have altered the wording throughout the manuscript to clarify that the 3-month duration is equivalent to 10 to 20 years of inhalant use versus 40 to 50 years for a 6 to 12 month model. We have also removed many instances of the descriptive terms acute, sub-acute and chronic across the manuscript, as focused on using the absolute duration of exposure instead, to avoid accidental extrapolation to longer exposures. Because we utilized cellular and molecular based assays, we were not relying on identifying organ level pathology such as fibrosis, emphysema, and organ dysfunction, all of which would require longer exposures. In the introduction and Discussion sections, the authors should consider including all in vitro and in vivo studies that have been conducted on JUUL aerosols, since there are very few of those already published articles.
It is unclear why the authors did not evaluate the gene expression of various cytokines in the lung tissue. Although there are a few limitations related to this study, which should be included in the manuscript, overall, the authors’ claims and conclusions are based on the data that is presented through multiple figures. This is a very interesting and potentially very important paper that shows multi-organ effects of JUUL exposure in mice. If possible, please include higher n-numbers and included other tobacco or vaping device as control. JUUL aerosol inhalation does not alter heart rate, heart rate variability or blood pressure. Chronic inhalation of JUUL aerosols alters Ccl2 and Il13 levels in cardiac tissue.
According to the 2021 National Youth Tobacco Survey, more than 2 million U.S. middle and high school students reported using e-cigarettes in 2021, with more than 8 in 10 of those youth using flavored e-cigarettes. If you have thought about trying to kick a smoking habit, you’re not alone. Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health — smoking harms nearly every organ in your body, including your heart.
Approximately 30–50% of total e-cigarettes sales are handled on the internet. Established tobacco companies have a significant share of the e-cigarette market. ADDICTION Chronic use of Juul and other e-cigarettes may lead to nicotine addiction. They added that smoking cigarettes, vaping and smoking marijuana can increase the risk of respiratory complications. Nicotine damages a baby’s brain and lung development and may affect other organs.

Some companies may use e-cigarette advertising to advocate smoking, deliberately, or inadvertently, is an area of concern. E-cigarettes are promoted to a certain extent to forge a vaping culture that entices non-smokers. Themes in e-cigarette marketing, including sexual content and customer satisfaction, are parallel to themes and techniques that are appealing to youth and young adults in traditional cigarette advertising and promotion. When nicotine intake stops, the upregulated nicotinic acetylcholine receptors induce withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms can include cravings for nicotine, anger, irritability, anxiety, depression, impatience, trouble sleeping, restlessness, hunger, weight gain, and difficulty concentrating.
Cardiac inflammation induced by inhaled LPS challenge is increased in the setting of JUUL aerosol inhalation for 3 months
Vaping and Your Oral Health Vaping can cause gum disease, cavities and loss of bone that anchors teeth to the jaw. Nicotine decreases blood flow to the gums and other toxic vape chemicals increase the risk. Nicotine is a stimulant and this quick absorption affects breathing, circulation and seizures. Accidental ingestion of e-liquids can result in poisoning, quickly affecting the cardiovascular, circulatory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems. Nausea and vomiting are the most common symptoms of nicotine poisoning, but some cases can be life threatening. E-liquid vapor exposes the pharynx and bronchial airways to carbonyls, carcinogens that react with DNA, cause inflammation and cell death.
Hon quit smoking after his father, also a heavy smoker, died of lung cancer. In 2001, he thought of using a high frequency, piezoelectric ultrasound-emitting element to vaporize a pressurized jet of liquid containing nicotine. Hon said that using resistance heating obtained better results and the difficulty was to scale down the device to a small enough size.
We paired these data with the original histology images (Appendix 1- Figure 4A-4L). We have added appropriate methods (pages 22-23) and results as well. Further, we have taken representative images of Giemsa Wright stained BAL samples, and have added these to the manuscript (new Appendix 1 Figure 3E-3J and 3O-3T, paired with BAL cell count data).
The vape pens and cig-a-likes were the first e-cigarettes studied from 2007 to 2014, whereas the box Mods became highly popular and research on these devices began around 2015. Pod devices, including the JUUL, were invented in 2016 and rapidly dominated the market by 2017–2020 . These pod-based devices produce aerosols with a different chemical composition than prior devices, including often significant higher concentrations of nicotine than Mod devices. Studies of JUUL to date have been predominantly subacute and acute exposures with a focus on in vitro and in vivo experiments.
